ASEAN looks to India and China to free Suu Kyi:
• Asean helpless in engaging Myanmar to free Suu Kyi(Myanmar is a member state)
• Secretary general-On Keng Yong
• It is keen to find a solution within an Asian framework
• India-China have been involved in lot of economic and defence deals
• Myanmar has declared that Suu Kyi is no a longer a political threat.
• SPDC-State peace and development council thinks that military rule is a normal form of governance
• ASEAN hopes to divest its responsibility to India and China
• “Washington” mode of thought cannot be applied in this context.
• China has already rebuffed a US move to create a consensus among the big powers in favour of a worldwide pro-democracy agenda
• India played a big role in the placing democracy in its neighbour, Nepal.This is being looked upon interestingly by the international community.

India currently has announced its plan to give training to Myanmar air force personnel in Kochi. Transfer of transport aircrafts is also in the agenda.
